Dillard’s Barton Creek general manager Mitch Guinn invited me to take a sneak peek at a pre-sale designer vintage handbags event this past week. Set up behind locked doors, we entered the room which was covered in pre-owned bags and wallets from Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, and Yves Saint Laurent. I admit, a bit of drool formed at my lips.
The pre-sale at the Barton Creek location ends tomorrow, August 18th, and then the bags will be on the main floor for the public to purchase on Saturday. That is, if there are any items left to buy. The Fendi bags are already gone. “They’re buying two or three at a time,” says Mitch. One woman who was shopping for discounted dishes at $1.80 per piece (declaring this would be her fine dining set) heard about the pre-sale and bought three bags on the spot. Clearly, she has her monetary priorities in line!
These pre-owned designer bags are in tip-top shape and each have a card of authenticity that includes the brand name, style, serial code, and year. Where did they come from? Dillard’s buys the product from a company called What Goes Around Comes Around (WGACA) based in New York. Each Dillard’s store will receive different shipments, so if you don’t see one of the following brands, ask a sales associate or manager if there are options available: Fendi, Prada, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Dior, Chloé, Céline, and Hermès.
Note that all sales are final. If you purchase during the pre-sale period, your bag remains at the store until the public sale date.
Dillard’s stores nationwide are hosting these events through February 2018, so if you miss this one, there are more coming. If you live in Texas, here are upcoming dates:

This is a smart collaboration between Dillard’s and WGACA. Think about it, you have the opportunity to touch and feel the vintage handbags from an online store, a great benefit to the consumer and a sure-fire for the e-commerce provider. Dillard’s now has a niche offering that other department stores don’t have, which makes them stand out and shows that they’re starting to be more creative in appealing to customers who are depending more and more on e-commerce. It’s a win-win for the retailers and for us.
