A flattering and comfortable fanny pack alternative? HipsSister may just be the best running apparel accessory I’ve purchased in years. Time to throw out the scratchy wristbands/armbands (and their tan lines). No more tying my car key to my shoes, sneaking my phone into my underwear band, or struggling to change my music while keeping pace.
What is a HipsSister?
It’s a moisture-wicking, micropoly and lycra blend waist band (or hip band) with zip pockets in front and back. Pockets can easily accommodate different size cell phones and your keys, a travel-sized sun block, or ID. It’s designed by Sonia Kanner from San Diego, CA.

What’s cool about this fanny pack alternative?
It hugs your body– no more jangling down the trail as your keys and phone bounce against your bum (or tum).
I forgot it was there after 5 minutes. That’s saying a lot considering all other alternatives have me messing with constant adjustments, noise, slippage, unwanted tan lines, etc. It comes in sizes kids 6x to women’s 24 so any age/size can get a good fit.
My iPhone 6S nests easily *upside down* so the earbud chords don’t get tangled in the pocket. Unlike armbands, my phone was easy to pull out for music/app changes while running.
They come in sports teams’ colors and sorority letters! Even bedazzled and printed styles are available. A great Mother’s Day or Graduation gift. Some are even reversible in colors– doubling your match rate. Definitely wearing mine to my son’s soccer games and college football games (Go Blue!).
It’s washable. Suggestion for wicking materials: Cold water, gentle to medium cycle. And hang to dry to keep the wicking chemical composition in tip-top shape. You may want to try a twin pack so you’ve got a clean one on hand at all times.
