Want to get more wear out of that killer dress you wear to evening events? Lower your “Cost-Per-Wear” and experiment with these tricks that can place your IT dress into your daytime clothing capsule!
Slip on a top under a dress.
The Cut highlighted this printed dress + turtle neck, and Emma Stone rocks a simple T-shirt with her dress as highlighted by Perez Hilton. Classy Cubicle took a sleeveless weekender and turned it into a great work ensemble with a simple red collared top. Choose the neckline that works best with your neck length, bust size and face shape (all heavy influencers). Remember: Breathing is important! Choose thin materials that allow the dress to zip comfortably and hold its shape 🙂
Throw on a killer sweater.
Textured, printed sweaters are all the rage now and can take a dress from night-to-day in a heartbeat. Pixics.com highlights some great street wear sweater trends, but I especially like how they highlighted a summer dress turned Fall fab on Rebecca of The Clothes Horse and Alexa Chung. More inspirational outfits come from Fashion Lab. Pair the sweater with a more conservative print dress for business casual. Keep sweaters thin if you’re an inverted triangle or rectangle or carry your weight in your tummy. Go with a heavier fabric and short, fitted cut and pair straight dress if you’re a a triangle.
Pull on your favorite blazer or suit jacket.
Chicisimo.com brought this ensemble to my attention. A little black dress turned into an office power house with a classic cut emerald green jacket and handbag. And blogger Henar Vicente shows a retro look that’s MadMen-worthy and turns the belt into a shape-gifting tool. Two things I’d suggest: If the dress is more than 2″ above the knee, add tights for an appropriate daywear look; and trade out the stripy evening shoes for a pointed kitten heel — MEOW!
