I’m elated with the accessories trends from Neiman Marcus this year. They are playful yet sophisticated with references from pop culture that are easy to integrate into your office attire or casual weekend wear. Gucci takes a front seat for me this season (which I’ve never said before!) because of their bold details. Even if Neiman’s is out of your budget, these trends can be found in a variety of stores at a variety of price points. While the photos focus on accessories trends from Neiman Marcus, the shopping links show the same trends from Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and Dillard’s.

Star Studded Earrings
The celestial fashion trend is one I’ve watched with great interest from binge watching “Reign” on Netflix. (I talk about stars in my Fall 2017 Fashion Picks.) This drama (premiered in 2014) follows the rise of Mary Queen of Scots with fashion fitting of a royal family. The jewels are heavenly, like the gold-plated sun and moon mismatch earrings that Mary wore in Season 3. The Diego Percossi Papi design ($825) sold out on Polyvore. The R.J. Graziano Double-Star Pave Earrings ($75) featured in Season 2 were no less stunning and sold out fast at Neiman Marcus and other retailers. I’m excited about the latest spring 2018 starry earrings that aren’t literal but carry the vibe. Like these Kendra Scott “Allie” earrings ($170 US).
Another trend-setting series is “Outlander” on STARZ. Claire’s embroidered dresses and accessories are a perfect example of infusing color into neutrals for a wow factor. Embroidered shoes are the way to go if you want that luxurious feel without adding bulk to your ensemble. These slip-ons from Gucci are divine, and other beautiful embroidered shoes set the gold standard with florals, mythical creatures, and nature dwellers.
Velvet Accessories After Easter (!)
In the movie Phantom Thread, for which costume designer Mark Bridges won an Oscar, is about a post-war designer who steps outside of “chic” to reach aesthetics that aren’t culturally vetted. Saying “yes” to velvet this spring falls right in line with his vision and are an adaptable edition to your wardrobe. Take Prada’s velvet sandals or Gucci’s emerald suede handbag. The key is to mix in bright spring colors to keep it in one with spring’s attitude– like a pair of white jeans or a floral dress!
Brights & Blacks
The much praised musical La La Land romanticized our cinematic experiences with shades of yellow, green, and pink in Emma Stone’s throw- back inspired costumes. Neiman Marcus celebrates these brights with stripes and color blocks that will make any woman feel like dancing and singing. Upgrade it to 2018 by mixing your brights with blacks and hard-edged prints for a modern, take-charge message. This display at Neiman Marcus at The Domain in Austin sums up the brights and blacks trend wonderfully. The Marc Jacobs camera bag ($295 USD) ties it all together. And the shoe combos from Chanel and Valentino follow the brights and blacks formula, as do Neiman’s scarf collection. YUM!
Sneakers Gone Glam
With so many marches and protests in 2017 and 2018, no wonder sneakers have entered the ranks of high fashion with stunning prints and embellishments that look fab with linen trousers, floral skirts, and more. Thick soles add height– but watch out for the exaggerated “orthopedic” trend (yes, that’s what the media is calling it) that can make over 40 women look more geriatric than trendy. I couldn’t choose just one Gucci style, so I took a pic of the whole damn table! As a side note, this trend reaches the likes of Gucci’s Timberland-esque boots below ($1290) that have stars *and* bright laces *and* nature dwellers!
